Sharpen for a Cause

Sharpen for a Cause

We’re doing something a little different this year for our knife-sharpening event. It will be free, as usual, but we’re asking you to sharpen your giving skills while we take care of your knives.

There’s a young local family that is really hurting right now.  We can help!

Our kids grew up with TJ, ---attended school and church with him.  Like many young couples, TJ and Kati have a houseful of kids---three little girls, including 1-year old twins.  Unlike most couples, TJ has been battling stage 4 brain cancer, which has rendered him unable to work or take care of the children while Kati is working.  As you can imagine, the medical bills are staggering, on top of what they need to pay normal household bills like groceries, utilities, insurance, and more.

They’re both private people and it’s not in their nature to ask for help, but they definitely need our help at this time.  We’re hoping that as a community, we can figuratively wrap our arms around them and bless them with some monetary assistance.  A donation jar will be set up all day in the store.  Every little bit counts!

We’ll be doing the sharpening between 4 and 7 pm.  You can drop off your knives any time that day, if the sharpening hours don’t work for you.  Please bring your knives wrapped securely (a towel works well) with name and phone number inside—no serrated knives, please.

STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER: A Jam Session
$65.00

Did you know we have a very talented canner on our staff?  When the produce is overflowing at the markets in August, Linda Busby turns into a canning machine!  She's agreed to pass some of her knowledge along to you in this class. The strawberries will be coming in at the end of the month and we'll be canning jam!  Not only will you get to learn all the basics of jam-making---you'll also leave with a jar to take home.  We know you won't be able to resist having a taste while you're there, so we're going to serve you an appetizer and dessert using strawberry jam.  Expect a delicious strawberry cocktail as well.   This class is being held on our lower level.  Our building was built over 100 years ago and we just want to make sure everyone who signs up has no trouble getting up and down a flight of stairs.

We hope you’ll join us for this delicious class.

PETALS & PLATES: An Extraordinary Experience with a Festive Nod to Spring

PETALS & PLATES: An Extraordinary Experience with a Festive Nod to Spring
$90.00

We're delighted to bring you this next Extraordinary Experience. We're all looking forward to spring and the flowers and foliage that follow. We've got a fun, talented special guest with loads to teach you and something to create with you. Here's how the evening will look.

You’ll be welcomed in with a pretty springtime cocktail and a fabulous amuse bouche. You'll check in and find out what group you're in. The first will stay upstairs with our guest, Angie from Meri Jo Flower Farm. We had her in last summer for a pop-up flower shop. She was so engaging and her stunning floral arrangements were so beautiful that she sold every last one of them well before the event was over. It was then that we knew we just had to have her back. She'll help get us ready for the growing season by sharing some of her expertise with you-- teaching you how to make your own garden bouquets, which low-maintenance flowers are perfect for your cutting garden, and how to condition your flowers and fillers before arranging to keep them fresh and beautiful for as long as possible. She's a wealth of information and inspiration and she'll sharing a lot of both!

Angie will help you create a springy floral centerpiece to take home in a beautiful rabbit vessel. (value $50). It'll look gorgeous on your Easter table or anywhere in your home, which brings us to the next part of the evening.

While the first group is with Angie, the second will head downstairs for a mini-cooking class to learn how to create the amuse bouche as well as an absolutely stunning veggie platter with a creamy whipped feta lemon dip, and how to prepare the dessert--a pretty-as-a-picture pastry filled with italian vanilla custard and laden with fresh berries.

Kathy and Marty will show you how to set a beautiful table, how to incorporate all sorts of things (including your arrangement) to a create a tablescape the will turn heads and add that extra something special to your Easter table or any springtime event. If you've ever looked at our windows or noticed a particularly gorgeous or fun display in the store, you know these two ladies have a gift for creating beauty, and have incredibly creative ideas that we're sure you'll love. Watch them put their talents to work and be inspired!

We'll change stations and when everyone has finished both, we'll meet together upstairs to enjoy that delicious dessert together.

You'll leave with your beautiful arrangement, some fabulous recipes, and loads of inspiration to make life a little more beautiful.
